App Review: Animal Fun Time!
I give serious kudos to Animal Fun. This app is the first to really engage my two and a half year-old, who’d rather go play with trains or go outside than immerse himself in technology. He’s clearly the smartest in my household
Animal fun first got his attention, I believe, because it has background music. Kids LOVE music! ‘A’ for the day to people operating technology, the makers of the app.
The animal images are very fun – what can I say, I’m a sucker for wacky cartoon illustrations – and the game is fun and easy.
Once you begin you are prompted by text and a lovely narrator to find an animal. With several to choose from this can be tough, especially when a less familiar animal pops into the mix (e.g. a hyena).
When your child taps the wrong animal there is a vocal prompt and visual cue that it was incorrect. When he or she gets the right answer, however, the other animals disappear, the correct animal grows larger and that animal’s roar, hiss or howl is played. Oh yah, there’s also a brief congratulatory message such as “Great!” or “Smashing” to encourage your child to keep going.
Great music, great illustrations, easy to use and it hooked my unhookable child. The only small complaint I have with this app is that it is not very deep in content and seems to loop infinitely, the result of which is my little guy playing a few rounds and leaving it bored. Still it is easily worth it’s weight in digital gold.
