Reviews

Looking to get your kids app reviewed here?

Unfortunately, we can’t respond to every request for a review instantly — but we do our best, and this is a labor of love so just bear with us.

Our bottom line is that we believe we have a responsibility to parents (and kids!) to be honest about what we think of the apps featured here. If you are looking for a glowing endorsement of your app and want some guidelines, here are some things we think are important:

- Ease of use (especially for the apps aimed at the littlest of kids)
- Strong interactivity that involves kids in the experience
- Fast loading (kids aren’t known for their patience…at least not our kids…)
- Novel concept (why is your app different from the hundreds of other kids apps out there?)
- Balance between educational focus and plain old fun

To be honest, we also rely a lot on what our kids seem to think of the apps – so if you aren’t testing your apps with real kids, you should.

Hi, there is a new app available on the app store that is great for kids. Here is the details:

Introducing the first in a series of “skill” applications that can teach your child or student basic and advanced skills that they need to succeed. In Shape Skills Level 1, your child or student can learn and develop fine motor skills by following a dotted line and tracing various shapes. They will learn to identify the difference between basic shapes, be able to see those shapes within everyday objects and also have the option of drawing their own masterpieces in the Free Draw section of the application. The different sections of this application include: Tracing, What’s That?, The Right One, Odd One Out, The Same and Free Draw.

Hi. As a parent I can clearly understand the need for honest and clear feedback on so so many apps that are in the store now. Does anyone read books anymore these days or everything has to be interactive and full of graphics to draw attention and make kids want to read stories?

We launched a collection of Brothers Grimm stories and of Hans Christian Andersen stories at http://edu-apps.mobi/ but everything nowadays seem to require higher and higher levels of IxD. (which does not come cheap)

StoryChimes just launched Sing and Send. It’s awesome! – It allows kids to sing along karaoke style, record and send their recordings to friends and family through e-mail or facebook. StoryChimes is constantly adding more songpacks – and they are so much fun – There’s a free song pack to try out – it’s addicting! Plus they have feature to play with the speed of the recording or add scratching – really personalizing the whole experience. Along side is a lot of facts, maps and general information. The thing behind the fun is that these are actually some of the most accurate digital reconstructions available and were constructed together with the worlds leading paleontologists.

I am happy to supply the kids blog with a promo code but your mail seems to be bouncing – please contact me and I can send you the code.

My kids, ages 3 and 6, play Licking Letters on our iPad & iPod. An adorable spelling app…keeps them busy and happy while they learn! What could be better?

Is it the norm to spam every open comments invitation on blogs to sell their own apps? I mean comments are great but it does get a little tedious to read through all the comments only to find that most of them are just ads for other apps. So I’m not going to plug my nursery rhymes iPhone app ;) (but if you’re interested you can have a look at out website for babies and young children and have some free fun there.
Love the site btw. Great job!!!!

The Opposite Test is the best app that lets you get in the opposite state of mind and to prove to you that you are the expert of the Opposite Test. You can tap your way to victory by just thinking the opposite of everything. It goes against all instincts of answering the question correctly.

Check out this new App. MandarinaKids Chinese for Kids App. Learning Chinese is made easy and fun with this App
And that’s why I love this app – it takes a challenging topic and reinvents the way the material can be learned so that it is both fun and educational. Kids may think they’re playing a game, but I guarantee that to succeed they will learn quite a bit along the way.
